19. septembra 1944, list Rudolfovi Kasztnerovi

“Dear Rezső, we agreed that, in order to acquired immunity, I would put together a list with 15 names at most. When the list is ready, I am to cable you that Max will contact the leading official of the local Jewish affairs that the people are indispensable from the economic perspective. I shall complete the list tomorrow. Yet I have to state that, when they receive the immunity, then it will only be given to them on the basis as the four of us have. Then it is very difficult to operate with the matter amidst the action when they pick us all up without any system and consideration for anyone’s word. Mistakes are made every day and no one has yet got out of machanoth (camp). It is therefore absolutely essential for each to obtain a written ID for themselves and their relatives, for no one can be expected to commit suicide. (…) It is certain, however, that, if the action begins, everyone will feel unprotected against the reckless and wild elements. I don’t know fear, but I do know the local situation and atmosphere.

It would be most important for the unfortunate souls who are already in the machanoth (camp) (over 3,000 people) to receive some aid, for they got there virtually naked.

Dear Rezső! It would be most important for you to visit me as soon as possible, as, by joining forces, we can perhaps prevent the worst. In any case, I await your news by the fastest possible means. (…) As autograph do alternate between the names: Rezső, Otto a Hanzi.

Shalom!”
